Live from Music Row Friday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for Crom’s Commentary in which he discusses why America is having supply chain problems right now.
Henry: What are you thinking this morning?
Carmichael: Grant, I’ve seen a couple of interviews recently. Pete Buttigieg was interviewed about the supply chain, and his response was his shopping helping habits for Christmas are not early.
Henry: (Laughs) What?
Carmichael: That was his response. The person on CNN asked a very good question and a setup that included a lot of the problems that we’re having. I don’t know what the lady’s name was.
There are two ways people shop for Christmas. Pete Buttigieg said that some people get all their shopping done for Christmas before Halloween. Other people are like me and are not quite as organized and do their last-minute shopping right before Christmas.
And that was the answer to the supply chain. Now let me say this. Anybody who wants to criticize Pete Buttigieg and claim that as mayor of South Bend, his accomplishments are not sufficient for him to be secretary of transportation. I want to be very clear that he did reorganize eight city blocks and he did put in two of those circle things.
Henry: Roundabouts.
Carmichael: He put in two roundabouts, one on each end of town, and he did reorganize eight city blocks. So anybody who says he’s unaccomplished, let me just point those things out. Because I go to South Bend a good bit. My mother lives there.
That’s his accomplishments. Let’s get to the more important subject of what Biden is now doing. And that is that Biden has now announced that the Port of Los Angeles will be open 24/7, and the truck drivers should drive at night because they can go further at night because there’s less traffic.
I don’t think this is news to truck drivers, by the way. I think there are a lot of truck drivers who do drive at night. But what’s interesting is the shortage that we have is not ours at the port.
The shortage that we have is a labor shortage that runs throughout the supply chain. And what Biden’s policies are doing is only making that worse.
What we’re about to see over the next six to eight weeks is more and more companies are being forced by the administration to impose the COVID vaccine mandates. And you’re going to see more and more people quit.
And so the supply chain, our educational system, our healthcare system, our police, our military, all of these different organizations are going to see I hope that the heads of the teachers’ unions have not been vaccinated so that they can’t go to work.
Because if the heads of the teacher’s unions can’t go to work, that would be a good thing. In fact, if they didn’t go to work for 10 years, that’d be a great thing. Biden is now saying that he is doing everything he can to get Walmart, Costco, Amazon, and Target to accelerate their supply chain out of China.
Let’s assume that somehow or another, they’re able to get their goods offloaded at the Port of Los Angeles or other ports. By the way, other ports all around the country are having trouble for the same reason. A lack of labor. But let’s assume he does that. Then we have a trucker’s shortage.
And by the way, you don’t just have somebody who’s never driven a truck. They don’t just all of a sudden say, oh, let them drive a truck. This is not signing up for Uber trucks. It takes training to drive a truck.
Truck driving is not something that you can just snap your finger on and bring people on. Here’s how Biden thinks. Biden has always been a simple thinker. Meaning that for every problem, Biden sees a simple solution, meaning he sees the problem as B and the solution as A.
He doesn’t understand and has always been incapable of understanding because his mindset is that of a grifter. I’ve said this ever since I’ve been back on the air. He is a grifter.
If it’s not good for him, if it’s not good for his family, or if it doesn’t make the Democrat Party more powerful, then he’s not interested in the policy. Those are his three screens. What you have now is you have a complex problem.
And the real genesis of the problem is his mandate, which is causing labor shortages. You see that in the data in August, you had 194,000 new jobs. They were expecting 600,000 or 700,000 new jobs. Why did they miss that?
They missed it because of the mandate. And so you have this shortage of truckers. Let’s say that Biden, somehow or another, gets all the Christmas goods delivered. Well, then what didn’t get delivered? It’s a four-letter word beginning with F.
Food! So you’re now seeing shortages of food in grocery stores all across the country. And it’s just beginning. And he won’t even take questions from the press. Everything I’m looking at, every single thing he is doing is designed to make government more powerful, which gets back to your point.
And making government more powerful is fundamentally the wrong thing to do at this time, especially then everything that he’s trying to solve is going to only get worse because his solution to solving every single problem is more government.
Henry: The cynic in me, or maybe even the conspiracy theorist in me would jump to this thing called the Cloward–Piven strategy which we don’t have time to get into right now.
Suffice to say, the basic assumption or premise goes that there’s a design or an orchestration to create a crisis so large that only government can solve it for you.
Maybe somebody in government creates a crisis that’s so big that the solution then is deposited by the government itself. I’m putting that out there just to say, are you saying that there’s some type of orchestration behind this?
Carmichael: No. The last part of your statement is impossible. You said to create a problem so big that only government can solve it.
The only problem that government can solve would be being attacked by a foreign power. That doesn’t mean it even solves it. But it’s the only entity that could address it.
Henry: That’s true.
Carmichael: Everything else that we’re talking about here, Biden sees the how do you address COVID when you do it with the fist of government? You put a knee on the neck of every human right that there is. And you force people to take a vaccine.
You then force children who are two years old and older to wear masks. These are things that are wrong. Now I’ve taken the vaccine.
But if I were 20 years old and healthy, I wouldn’t take the vaccine. If I were a professional athlete, and many of the NBA players and the NFL players have gotten COVID? Yes.
Henry: Oh yeah.
Carmichael: How long does it take them to recover?
Henry: A week or two. Something like that.
Carmichael: And then they’re right back playing Kyrie Irving is not going to play. He’s giving up a whole year’s salary, which is probably $15 or $20 million. He is just the tip of the iceberg.
Henry: More of that iceberg when we return after this break.
